VW Strut Conversion

Discovered last year that a VW strut from the following models will fit the front knuckle of the prelude and will house the original prelude spring. Some modification are needed, including drilling out your top hat and mount for the larger piston bore. A member of the G1Preludes group, Keegan Wilhelm, tried the conversion on his '82 Prelude with good success.

This allows adjustable front coil overs from these models to fit the Prelude.

Technically the KFFL-12 can be used to lower the front by an additional 20mm. This has never been tested.

The front coil springs are identical in design to the late 60's UK ford suspension used in the Cortina, MK1 V6 Capri and 78-81 MK2 2 litre Escort models. It's also used on the 79-83 2nd Gen Civics and 80-85 Rover Quintet models. 95-02 Cavalier & Sunfire rear springs show promising specs to fit the SN's spring perch. This has not been tested. All springs used on the Prelude were a combination of a 80-83 Civic sping & strut size with a 79-81 Accord load rating.

The rear coil springs are shared with the 79-83 2nd Gen Civics and 80-85 Rover Quintet.

Honda AA/VC City/Jazz (T1 or T2) and Honda Life JB1 Front shocks will reportedly fit the Prelude Knuckle, but not confirmed. (Source www.cityturbo.com)
